at least i found this new post as a &quot;reply&quot; on the comments. Sorry for being that late :(
Anyway currently there are some more good reasons mentioned adding the IDE deps. Nevertheless from my point of view its not needed. Sure, productivty increases a LOT if all devs are using the same IDE, BUT isn&#039;t it possible (another guy mentioned it) just using the several available plugins for IDEs creating theese needed files? Eclipse and IntelliJ provides plugins for that. Netbeans could also be used because it just relies on  ANT-Scripts. (the guys from playframework also provides some &quot;netbeansify&quot; mechanism which is also useable (i think))

So from my opinion we should encourage developers using theese plugins for maven ( then it&#039;s not relevant if they hate or love it :) )!
